In line with the company’s sustainability efforts, SM Center Tuguegarao Downtown will launch its 564.48 kW rooftop solar energy facility on December 07, 2017 as part of SM Prime’s (SMPHI) commitment towards making its operations sustainable and environment friendly as the world prepares for the effects of climate change.
The project is composed of 1,764 panels that can produce approximately 1,524 MWH per year. These panels produce enough power to energize up to 7.5 kW escalators equivalent to 56 escalators at the same time. The panels can also energize 115, 043 mobile units simultaneously.
The project capacity has an avoidance of 1,143.072 tons of CO2 emission per year which is equivalent to plating of 5,715.36 trees per year. These panels are also expected to save the mall Php 5,176,402.56 in electricity bill per month.
The solar rooftop is the second industrial solar project in Cagayan, aside from St. Paul University Philippines.
Other environmental efforts is the mall’s use of water recycling facility that uses sewage treatment as part of Water Conservation effort and recycles non-potable water for malls’ lavatory flushing.
Solid waste management is also highlighted in mall operations aside from its Environment Programs like “Trash to Cash” that allows the community and mall tenants to convert their scraps into cash.
As SM Supermalls aspires to be exemplary for commercial and industrial establishments, this latest milestone on green energy projects reaffirms SM Prime’s commitment to its role as a catalyst for economic growth, delivering innovative and sustainable lifestyle cities that enrich the quality of life of millions.
