2019 Transformation Summit to Highlight Need of Keeping Up with Industry Demands

Cebu’s information technology (IT) and business process management (BPM) sector needs to adapt to the growing needs of its global clientele.

With this realization, this year’s Transformation Summit aims to provide top-level executives and managers with the options that are available for them to transition into higher-value services.

“Change By Choice” is theme of the 2019 Transformation Summit which will be taking place on May 6 Monday at The Grand Ballroom of Summit Galleria Hotel in Cebu City from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“Our theme this year is Change By Choice because we see that if we continue with the usual things we have been doing, we will most likely be left behind. We are seeing the industry headed towards the high-value services,” said Wilfredo “Jun” Sa-a, Managing Director of the Cebu IT-BPM Organization (CIB.O), which is organizing the summit.

Apart from the usual contact center business, which Cebu has become known for over the years, Sa-a said the local industry should explore other forms of outsourcing services it can offer.

These include back office operation, non-voice, IT outsourcing, shared services, health information management services, finance and accounting, banking services, and engineering services among others. And this should include new products and services coming from our startups.

A battery of speakers, both local and foreign experts, are expected in this year’s Transformation Summit in order to present these available options to companies and their representatives.
Jonathan De Luzuriaga, President of the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines (NICP) and the Philippine Software Industry Association (PSIA), will be delivering the keynote address titled “Choices for Our Future.”

According to Sa-a, who is the Summit Chairperson, De Luzuriaga will be talking about the different choices available for companies in order to scale up and for our startups todevelop more products and services, taking into consideration the global market.

Franklin Pasayloon and KrisVillaba, Center Directors for SYKES Synergis and SYKES Robinsons Galleria, respectively, will be having a talk titled “Keeping the Maverick Spirit Alive.”
They will be talking about the new direction which SYKES is headed to.

SYKES, which is known as the pioneer in the contact center business in Cebu, is also Co-Presenter of the 2019 Transformation Summit. 

Lexmark Senior Manager Bill Santillan will be talking about the company’s new business model- a  shift to global business services; while Accenture, Inc. Delivery Center Lead forTechnology Arvin Yason will discuss about “future proofing” the workforce.

A panel discussion with the speakers titled “Bolder Choices” will be moderated by Melanie Ng, Past President of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI).

For the afternoon session, Coders Guild Founder Joey Gurango will talk about making Cebu City the first “City of Coders” in the Philippines.  This is an unprecedented move to train our senior high school teachers to teach their students the foundations of coding or programming.  Based on the on the latest list of Top 10 Jobs in the Gig Economy, 4 out of the top 5 jobs will require coding or programming background.  So we are preparing our future talents not only for the higher value services but also for the future jobs.

Wipro Limited will be flying in their Global Head of Automation and Transformation Mr. Somit Kapoor to discuss the company’s intelligent automation and emerging technologies in order to build and sustain the digital culture.

Cognizant Philippines Director for Life Sciences Digital Operations Jeanette Go Sy will have a talk about Transformation in Life Sciences.

An afternoon panel discussion titled “Choices that Defined/Will Define Cebu” will be moderated by IT Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) Past President/CEO Jomari Mercado.
The last set of speakers for the afternoon include Accenture Digital Lead in the Philippines Managing Director JP Palpallatoc who will discuss the Tech Vision 2019; Amihan Global Strategies President Jerry Rapes who will talk about “The Digital Disruption Journey”; NgKhai Corp. President Wilson Ng to discuss factors affecting technology adoption choices; and GMCAC Chief Executive Advisor Andrew Harrison who will present updates on Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 of the Mactan Cebu International Airport.

“We are expecting around 275 participants from the industry. These are top-level executives and managers,” Sa-a said.
