Mactan-Cebu International Airport welcomes the Yuletide season with a Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony



Cebu City - GMR MEGAWIDE Cebu Airport Corporation (GMCAC), together with the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA), Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) officially welcomed the start of the Christmas season in Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) as it lit up its 20-feet tall Christmas Tree today at the new Terminal 1 Airport Village . 

This year, MCIA celebrates the Christmas season with the theme “The Greatest Snowman”. Located at the Airport Village, The 20-feet tall Christmas Tree was decked in red and silver décors, accentuated with colorful jester clowns baubles.

The ceremonial lighting was led by Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan and first lady  Cindy Chan, Lapu-Lapu City Tourism Officer Edward Mendez, Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA)MCIAA General Manager Steve Dicdican, and GMR MEGAWIDE Cebu Airport Corporation (GMCAC) Deputy Chief Commercial Officer Ma. Christina Angan.GMCAC Chief Operations Officer Michael Lenane.

The event also featured performances from Sisters of Mary Handbell Choir and Knapsack Dancers.

Terminal 1’s to amaze


Immediately after the opening of the international terminal (T2) on July 2018, the domestic terminal (T1) underwent a total renovation based on a design by the acclaimed Architects Budji + Royal. The new design concept focused in making Terminal 1 more efficient, more pleasant to use, and provided a significant improvement in various facilities for use by passengers and those receiving and seeing off passengers.

Completed on August 2019, Terminal 1 boasts of its own unique identity which reflects the vibrancy of Cebu’s natural landscapes and further builds on the resort-airport themed concept seen in the newly opened Terminal 2. This further cements MCIA’s position as a world-class facility and the country’s friendliestPhilippines’ resort- airport.

With the new design layout of Terminal 1, the domestic terminal can now handle 11.7 mppa with an increased floor area from approximately 38,000 sq. m to about 45,000 sq. m.  As part of the above concept, tThe following are the significant changes in Terminal 1:
Airport Village

The Airport Village was designed to provide a much better arrival experience for passengers and expanded commercial areas for meeters and greeterswell-wishers, and for the public who wish to shop and dine without any travel plans. It features a bigger Duty Free area where returning OFWs and other passengers can shop together with their family and friends. Other shops showcased at the Airport Village are Casa Verde and Nippon Ramen.

Transportation Hub



Conveniently located outside the arrival area, the old Taxi Bay Area was developed into the new Transportation Hub with an increased capacity to accommodate buses, taxis, vans, car hire, and private vehicles designated for arrival pick-ups. Meanwhile, a separate staging/holding area for yellow and white taxis was built near the departure road. Also, a covered area was developed for jeepney pickup point for the airport staff and passengers at the departures road.
Plaza Premium Lounge

Brimming with characters  that never fail to charm both business and leisure travellers, The Plaza Premium Lounge is the second location in the MCIA following the first Plaza Premium Lounge in Terminal 2 (International Departures), joining the world’s largest and award-winning network of independent airport lounges with more than 70 locations at over 35 international airports globally.
Grand Lobby

The pre-terminal area has been transformed into a beautiful grand lobby with a high -ceiling and a wider area for a more comfortable circulation for passengers and other airport users. It also has various F&B and retail shops for passengers and well-wishers to enjoy. Newly-opened stores in the pre-terminal area are Ato Ni, District Fiesta, Ceburrific, and Shakey’s.

Expanded Southwing Departure Gate Halls

The old international area of Terminal 1 was converted into the domestic departure gate halls which boasts of new and exciting F&B and retail brands. To enhance travel experience, the newly renovated domestic departure gate halls has an expanded area which offers more space for passengers’ circulation to enhance their travel experience. This area also features the Food Avenue where passengers can comfortably dine at the following F&B shops: Lolo Pinoy’s Lechon, Filipino Delights, Taipei Tea, Nippon Ramen, and Bake. Other architectural/structural developments

A widened departures curbside with an 85-m long canopy-covered drop-off. This allows more vehicles to drop-off passengers in a period. Also, the canopy offers passengers protection from the weather.
Higher facade glazing and glass and steel railing were introduced to revamp the domestic terminal and to make it more spacious. The old arched canopies were also removed.
Installation of new escalators and elevators as a modern means of VHT (Vertical - Horizontal transports). Demolition of ramps at arrivals road and replacing them with elevators and staircases. Further, more elevators and escalators have been added in the revised plan to enhance passenger flow.
Provision of new floor finish, column cladding and false ceiling.
Provision of PTFE Sky Roofs for the open sky spaces at Airport Village to add on to the aesthetics and design

MCIA to raffle off a Harley-Davidson motorcycle

The Mactan-Cebu International Airport will be raffling off a Harley-Davidson Superlow motorcycle 2019 model to passengers that will shop at any of MCIA’s retail outlets this Christmas season.

Launched in partnership with the Harley-Davidson Cebu and Cebu Safari & Adventure Park, the MCIA’s ‘Shop and Win’ Raffle Promo will run from 28 November 2019 to 16 February 2020 and is open to all domestic and international passengers that arrive at or depart from Mactan-Cebu International Airport’s Terminals 1 and 2 (T1 & T2). The grand winner will be announced during the grand raffle draw scheduled on 17 February 2020.

“Following the success of the first ever airport raffle, we are proud and excited to announce that we are having a second run of the Shop and Win Raffle Promo. This time, we are raffling off a Harley-Davidson motorcycle for the passengers,” said GMCAC Deputy Chief Commercial Officer Ma. Cristina Angan.

To qualify for the raffle promo, passengers must have a minimum single receipt purchase worth:

PhP 500 – from T1 Food & Beverage (F&B) shops, T1 Stress Away, T1 or T2 WH Smith, T2 K2 Pharmacy, T1 or T2 Pack & Fly, or

Celebrate the Classic Yuletide Season and Feel “RLove” at Robinson Galleria Cebu


Whats is RLove? Robinsons’ mission is to bring together everything we love about the holiday season. For some, it will be the presents and food while for others, it’s the reunions and festivities.

Robinsons Galleria Cebu unveiled its unique Christmas Tree decked with vintage feels, and adorned with the classic red and gold Christmas balls, fairy lights, and vintage houses.






Two organizations are chosen beneficiaries of Robinsons Galleria Cebu which will be turning over gifts to the children, these are children from "Rise Above Foundation and Umapad Elementary School"








Aside from the Christmas Tree, Robinsons Galleria Cebu will also feature a Christmas House and a vintage pickup truck on display at the activity center together with a countdown display on the days til Christmas Day.




To celebrate the start of Robinsons Galleria Cebu's countdown to Christmas, there will be a Pre-Holiday Sale from November 15-17 wherein discounts of up to 70 percent off will be available in select stores.

On December 21, there will be a Character Meet and Greet at 1 pm and 4 pm while on December 22, there will be a Santa Paws at 3 pm.
