In any field of endeavor, it is innovation that sets apart an institution or organization from the rest. At Children's Paradise Montessori School (CPMS), innovation is also a vital component in its operations.

CPMS is the first Strengths-Based School in the Philippines. As such, the school promotes a strengths-based culture where it focuses and capitalizes on strengths and managing weakness in its students, and even its employees.

As a trailblazer, CPMS will be holding two summer workshops to reach to the greater Metro Cebu community - the Youth Empowerment and Strengths Camp or YES Camp, and the Integrated Coot Camp (IBC)

(Marivic Bathan - Children's Paradise Montessori School President)

According to CPMS President Marivic Bathan, these innovative activities are aimed at developing and honing the talents of children and the youth to develop them into strengths.

Youth Empowerment and Strenghts Camp or YES Camp

The first ever YES Camp is set to be held at the RAFI-Kool Adventure Camp (KAC) in Balamban, Cebu this coming May 30 to June 1. It will be open to youth aged 4 to 16 years old.

"CPMS is launching this annual program this year as it sees it relevant in empowering and engaging the youth to contribute to the greater good humanity," Bathan said.

"This YES Camp will focus on the strengths of the youth, individually and collectively. At the end of the camp, the participants would have a concrete and firm grasp of their talents, will be coached on how they can develop and hone their talents to strengths, and will be provided a support group starting from their parents, family, and the YES Camp family." she added.

The YES Camp will be facilitated by Coach May Soriano, an internationally awarded Life, Executive, and Gallup Strengths Coach: Fr. Loreto Jaque, who is finishing a masters degree in Biodanza in Peru nad has been trained in Play Expressive Arts Therapy in France and Switzerland; and facilitators from the RAF-KAC.

Integrated Boot Camp

On the hand, the Integrated Coot Camp (IBC) is scheduled on May 20 or July 5 and will delve on theater arts and creative ecology.

Participants of the IBC will be children from 4 years old and 16 years old with the objective of holistic development through opportunities of exposure in different learning areas and disciplines like the arts, humanities, sciences, and technology.

A competent pool of professional creative artists will serve as trainers and facilitators of participants of the IBC.

Leading the group is Rudy Aviles who will act as the creative director, and Emman Mante as his assistant creative director. Mante is the founder and director of independent theatre group Young Thespians of Cebu.

Professional songwriter, record producer, and musical director Jude Gitamondoc, who is a two-time recipient of the Awit Awards, will be the composer and arranger.

Other trainer are Nino Banares for percussion and rhythmic instruments; Alfie Mosqueda as choreographer; Crisanto Etoma as visual artist, photograher and videographer; and Rosebelle Daculan as camp facilitor.

"What makes this year's Boot Camp exciting is that it will culminate into an original full-theater production to showcase the creativity of the participants on July 6, 2019 at the USP Theater for Performing Arts," Bathan said.

"With a very relevant theme on Ecology, Theater Arts will be the effective means to inspire, educate  and empower the participants and its audience to take heed of the challenges to live back to the basics to save Mother Earth," she added.

At the end of the boot camp, the management of CPMS sees the participants developing their self-confidence, literacy, communication, imagination, empathy, critical thinking and problem solving, self-discipline, community awareness, public speaking, curricular integration, and teamwork.

In line with the growing consciousness in protecting our environment, coupled with the continued pursuit for holistic education. Children's Paradise Montessori School (CPMS) is embarking on several green projects and programs.

Green school buildings, promoting a healthy lifestyle in the school curriculum, and introducing healthy diets are among the plans of the multi-awarded CPMS.

According to CPMS Founder and President Marivic Bathan, they have seen the growing trend among parents of their schoolchildren becoming more environmentally concerned.

"Our direction as a school is to be a green school. Our approach is holistic; that is really transforming our current lifestyle to becoming more environmentally-friendly and healthy as well" - CPMS Founder and President Marivic Bathan

Earlier this year, CPMS broke fround for its new four-storey school buidling which will have a roof deck and will feature green elements integrated into the structure. It is targeted to be completed by July this year, in time for the coming school year 2019-2020. The new school building will be used for the Preschool and Elementary classrooms as well as admin offices.

The new school building is part of the CPMS 2025 Masterplan which was unveiled by the school's management last Janaury.

Under the Masterplan, four new school buildings will be built by COMS, which will be undertaken in three phases of land development

In 2025, CPMS will already be in its 20th year of operation and Bathan said they foresee a population of 400 to 500 students from Toddler to Senior High School. The Masterplan also aims to expand CPMS' programs to open Junior High in school year 2021-2022 and Senior High after two years.

GoWifi for Cebu Institute of Technology University

The future is Here: Globe braces CIT University's digital transformation with new partnership. Digital transformation is no longer just an option but it has become a necessity among companies, commercial establishments, and in recent years, educational institutions.

Last December 6, 2018, the country's leading provider in telecommunications services, fortifies the digital age to one of Cebu City's awarded and oldest schools: Cebu Institute of Technology - University (CIT-U) through a Memorandum of Agreement signing between Globe myBusiness and the esteemed university.

CIT University, founded in 1946, will now be powered by Globe to provide free internet access for 30 minutes to the school's 12,000 students via its premium wifi service, GoWifi. Students can now stay connected in specific convergence areas inside their campus.

"CIT University partners with companies who share and believe in our own set of core values. With Globe Telecom's mission to create a Globe of Good, we are confident that together we can make a difference, not just in technology and innovation but also in strengthening and moral fiber of the CIT Community", notes Mr. John Gregpory B. Escario, Vice-President for Administration in his opening remarks at the MOA Signing.

On the other hand, Cleo Santos, Globe myBusiness Sales Head, said: "Empowering teachers and transforming schools with the latest technology is one of Globe Telecom's vision and we try to harness these innovations to empower Filipino students with world-class learning solutions.

She added: "Globe continues its commitment to education through its Global Filipino Schools (GFS), Teacher Training Programs both for private and public schools, Learning Competitions, Education Workshops through GlobemyBusiness Academy, just to name a few. Globe continues to design and develop projects that equip and empower schools to be able to support this generation of new digitally native learners. We also provide relevant solutions that allows educational institutions to be future-ready and equip students and teachers towards digital transformation."

Aside from the free WIFI access, CIT University also availed itself of Globe Labs' SMS API, a programming software that allows web applications to send and receive text messages. Through this new service, CIT University can notify the parents of the students regarding the latter's academic standing. In the past, the parents of students would receive report cards through courier. Parents would sometimes claim that the report cards would be sent very late or, worse, get lost in the mail. The latest digital upgrade by CIT University is part of the school's vision to enhance customer satisfaction and improve spending efficiency.

Globe Telecom's SMS API service will also benefit CIT University's various school initiatives such as facilitating inquiries on tuition fees, payment confirmation, to name a few.

Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP) is an advocacy and training program to further support the school's digital-connected". DTP is helpful in encouraging schools to (1) value the importance of online security and online business models; (2) enjoy the Impact of being "digitally-connected" to the university's community and rest of the world; (3) inspire students to appreciate how technology can aid their future careers; and (4) educate students to appreciate how to critique online information.

All these developments uphold CIT University's distinction as a top academic institution continuously developing values-driven, highly competent, and innovative services and programs. Among CIT University's latest laurels is bagging the top prize of the Program The Future 2018 campus challenge organized by an international firm.
